Yes guys who heard it very correctly that Microsoft is going to kill windows 8 by 12th January. Microsoft is considering Windows 8.1 as a service pack for Windows 8 users and according to the rules you can hold a service pack for only 2 years.
What Redmond said excatly then it goes like this,
Windows 8, support ends 24 months after the next service pack releases or at the end of the product’s support lifecycle, whichever comes first. If you are using software without the latest service pack you won’t be offered any new security or non-security updates, although preexisting updates will continue to be offered.
With windows 8.1 Microsoft promises lots of bugs fixes but was not so still there were many bugs and that's why finally the released windows 10 which still has bugs as you can always see the consecutive updates every else and then. While Windows 8.1 reaches its end of support on January 10, 2023, the end of Windows 8 has finally arrived.
Now users using Windows 8 have 3 options in their hand :
1. UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 8.1
If you love Windows 8 and want something familiar, go for it as Windows 8.1 is a free upgrade for Windows 8 users. Windows 8.1 comes with support until January 10, 2023.
2. UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 10
There’s also an option to upgrade your PC to the latest Windows iteration i.e. Windows 10. Again, it’s free of charge and a few clicks away. Windows 10 comes with support until October 14, 2025.
3. DOWNGRADE TO WINDOWS 7
he support for Windows 7 lasts until January 14, 2020. If you are in love with the world’s most popular OS, go for it.
While Microsoft could justify this step by calling it straight from the rulebook, it could also be seen as a strategy to lure users into upgrading to Windows 10.
THE MAIN THING IS THAT WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW ??
So if you choose to ignore this news, your Windows 8 PC will be exposed to unpatched security risks. So, to avoid those, I advises you to consider the above possible options.
Stay tuned for more updates.....
