Say Goodbye to the Java Browser Plugin

Nowadays java is remained only at the GUI level but due to its this thing only it has gained the popularity. But as the technology is growing day by day now its a time to say goodbye to the java browser plugin.

Modern browsers are moving quickly to drop support for plugins, and Oracle sees the writing on the wall. This fall, the Java browser plugin will begin its farewell, the company confirmed in a Wednesday blog post.

"With modern browser vendors working to restrict and reduce plugin support in their products, developers of applications that rely on the Java browser plugin need to consider alternative options such as migrating from Java Applets (which rely on a browser plugin) to the plugin-free Java Web Start technology," Oracle wrote.

The demise of the Java plugin begins on Sept. 22 with the release of JDK (Java Development Kit) 9. "This technology will be removed from the Oracle JDK and JRE in a future Java SE release," Oracle said.

The 20-year-old computer software, developed by Sun Microsystems and later acquired by Oracle, allows folks to operate app-like features on Internet browsers. But growing concerns over security and that arrival of more modern Web solutions have made Java a less popular solution for developers. Microsoft, Google, Mozilla, and Apple have already ended (or will soon end) support for NPAPI Web plugins, including Silverlight and Java. So it only makes sense, then, for Oracle to put the program out to pasture.

For now, businesses that rely on Java browser plugins can continue using them in compatible browsers. But Oracle has a white paper with details about migrating from Java Applets to plugin-free Java technologies.

STAY TUNED FOR MORE .....
